Self-care has become a buzzword, but let’s look into how much we really know about it and, more importantly, how much we apply it.
Self-care means caring about oneself. It involves integrating positive habits into our lives and applying them regularly to keep ourselves healthy and balanced. This is crucial in general, but even more so when on a fertility journey, as the goal is to be in an optimal state of health or as close to it as possible.
There are different levels of self-care:
- Physical level: This includes everything related to caring for our body: incorporating as much healthy food into our diet as possible, exercising 2-3 times a week (at least), and going on 20-minute daily walks.
- Mental Level: This involves being mindful of what we allow into our minds daily. Examples of self-care on this level include avoiding negativity, negative news, negative people, gossip, and anything that brings you down.
- Professional Level: Self-care on this level means making daily and weekly plans, having a clear and realistic to-do list, learning to say no, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
- Spiritual level: This involves giving time to yourself, including daily relaxation and meditation in your routine. It’s about having time to be with yourself, setting time for journaling, reflecting, meditating, or anything else you choose—perhaps just sitting in silence or reading something inspiring.
Remember that it is the small things done regularly that can make a big change over time!
